Authors Note (1-7-2001):
“ Have I forgotten anything?”

Checklists provide an effective management tool to confirm everything is on board, and all the tasks are completed. Why try to remember everything in your head when checklists never forget!!! During our cruise across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans we compiled numerous checklists and procedures to control our activities.

We do not normally consider bluewater cruising as something that needs to be managed, but if you want to make the most of your cruise, then it must be effectively planned, co-ordinated and controlled. Checklists are an excellent tool for this purpose – even NASA uses them!!!

This comprehensive portfolio of checklists focuses on the needs of a 40 to 50 foot yacht, and covers every aspect of bluewater cruising from shopping lists to equipment lists, and from safety procedures to going ashore. Where appropriate we have included checklists from international institutions (ORC Category 1 and SOLAS), marine equipment manufacturers and yachting magazines.

These checklists can be read in conjunction with our preparation guide, Managing Your Bluewater Cruise, and our bluewater travelogue, Greenwich to the Dateline. If bluewater cruising is right for you then, this could be the most rewarding period of your life.
